Our Podere
Our Podere
Overlooking the stunning Val di Merse, Podere Arizzi stretches across hectares of rocky slopes composed of vineyards, olive groves, and woodland. Elevated at around 400 meters, we are uniquely positioned between the Tyrrhenian sea and the Apennines. Our vines thrive here, basking in the warmth of the Tuscan sun while benefiting from the refreshing evening breezes that sweep across the hills.
We are proudly organic, both in our vineyard management as well as in our winemaking. Being entirely estate grown, we produce our wines exclusively with the fruit we grow ourselves in our surrounding vineyards. This gives us total connection to our land from start to finish and allows us to carefully tailor every vintage to it's highest potential.
Our estate features approximately 9 hectares of vineyards, complemented by olive groves and native woodland, which helps preserve biodiversity by maintaining balanced ecosystems that naturally reduce disease and pest pressures. The dry-farmed vineyards are located at elevations of 350 to 450 meters on steep, rocky slopes with diverse soil types and different microclimates. We focus on minimal intervention and artisanal winemaking techiniques to produce elegant wines that reflect our unique terroir.
Our main focus is the cultivation of the local Tuscan varieties Vermentino, an aromatic white grape, and Sangiovese, one of the most famous Italian reds. Additionally, we decided to plant the French varieties Viognier, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, that have adapted incredibly well to our terroir, producing unique and distinct wines.
Our winemakers carefully monitor these vines throughout the growing season, keeping a watchful eye on maturity and flavour development. Once the grapes reach optimal ripeness, they are hand-harvested in the cool mornings and taken to the winery for processing.
The winery, inspired by traditional Tuscan stone farmhouses, features a modern winemaking facility focused on sustainability. As the vines absorb the Tuscan sunshine to produce flavourful grapes, our solar panels capture and utilize that same energy, supplying the majority of the electricity needed to meticulously control the temperatures throughout fermentation and aging. The barrel room, designed for aging our wines in French oak barriques, is strategically built into the hillside behind the winery. This natural setting maintains a cool and humid environment that is ideal for the ageing process.
